Association of Local Authorities Waste Management Planning

The waste management planning of the Association, contains actions that concern the total idea of waste management. Apart from the sector of Recycling and landfill management there are six more actions, which are going to improve the existing waste management system, and change it to a complete waste management system. These actions are: Construction of a unit for sorting, which will maximalize the quantity of the regained recyclable material. Construction of waste transfer station, with the capacity of absorbirg the waste production of all the Western Municipalities of Thessaloniki, a well as a part of the Minicipality of Thessaloniki. This project is in the phase of realization minus the final location. Construction of a unit for the production of electricity with a power of 240 KW by biogas, that is produced in the sanitary landfill site of the east sector (Tagarades). Consruction of a unit for the elaboration of hospital and dangerous waste through pyrolysis. Restoration of the old landfill sites in Thermi and Derveni. The restoration template of the old dump site in Thermi (Panorama) Expansion of the recycling program to the whole prefecture of Thessaloniki. Apart from the big projects mentioned abovec the Association is planning a gread deal of supplementary intervention of short or long range, such as glas collection programs, the catalysts recycling, the recycling of plastic materials tyre recycling special publications about wastec program of cooperation with schools and shortly a great deal of activities, which are expressed through the idea: LESS WASTE FOR A BETTER FUTURE
